Great Blue Heron (Bird Journal Series)
Watercolor, ink, and graphite on Strathmore

2014

Gallery A is pleased to announce the return of Michael Francis Reagan. Renowned illustrator and mapmaker, Reagan revisits Gallery A for his second exhibit: “Ways of Flying.” This exhibit will open in October and will feature Reagan’s maps as well as his new Bird Journal Series.

His beautifully meticulous watercolor technique and attention to detail makes Reagan’s maps a must see. Reagan’s use of watercolor breaths life into the land and culture he is illustrating. His maps have been featured in publications including The New Yorker, National Geographic, Smithsonian, Travel & Leisure, New York Times, and Washington Post.

Additionally, Reagan's new and breathtaking series of bird paintings were originally inspired by his novella The Bird Dreamer. In this novella the protagonist is a bird artist, inspiring Reagan to draw upon his own imagination and life experiences. According to Reagan, these images evolved into “dream-like visions and memories of my own," reminiscent of his years of travels and adventures all across the world.

For Reagan, his Bird Journal Series represents more than the physical anatomy of flying, feathered beings. He conveys them as supernatural creatures, beautiful, haunting, and ghostly. Viewers are sure to be impressed and moved by these works.

All are welcome to experience Michael Francis Reagan’s “Ways of Flying” opening on Friday, October 3, 2014. Gallery A is open Tuesday-Saturday 11 am-5pm.
