REGULAR HOURS: WED - SUN NOON - 6:00 PM
ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
EXHIBITING IN GALLERY II
McGee’s medium and large-scale abstract works
reveal an exploration in compositional qualities as well as a palpable
sensitivity to palette. The intellectual yet profoundly emotive approach to
painting emerges from McGee’s extensive background in early childhood education
in the arts. Her paintings have won awards and are found in private collections
in the US, Europe, and in numerous corporate establishments throughout
Washington, DC. Donna K. McGee treats viewers to the wonder and richness of
colors and uses color to create atmosphere and emphasize forms. The imagery
that is present in many of the pieces is highlighted by the use of the color
blue which speaks eloquently in a language all its own. There is much that is
exciting in this collection, and the overall impression is one that allows the
audience to feel themselves in the role of an adventurer, daring to venture
further and to see more clearly. The result is sure to speak to both the head
and the heart, and remain a lasting memory for those who see it.
In addition to the main
Gallery, Foundry Gallery II features member artists exhibiting work that has
not been shown before at the Foundry. For an exciting array of work that
changes monthly and is exhibited by a unique group of talented artists, please

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
Called an inheritor of the Color School (May 2012,
DCArtNews, blogspot.com),
Nancy Donnelly strives for something like realism, but with respect for
abstraction. Her work, both 3-D and wall-hung, reveals an amused interest
in the actual world. There's at least one joke in this show!
Trained as a painter, Donnelly discovered glass as an art
medium a few years ago and realized what a gorgeous and difficult material
it is. Now, she has looked past the beauty of glass and overcome the
technical difficulties to focus on the purpose, the narrative, the meaning of
art work -- not the decorative qualities but the need to speak about life and
the world.
These days she is consciously bringing drawing and
painting back into her work, working bigger, and melding glass with other
materials, as well as making more art on paper. She describes her
work as "trying and trying to say something without words."

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
Inspired by the beauty unfolding this spring in Washington, Judy Gilbert Levey's vivid hues and aggressive brushing take viewers deep into plein air paintings of lily ponds, farms and country and urban life. The mood of her work ranges from bucolic to grenetic. Her vision seeks to sweep aside the line between representation and abstraction, finding color, light and patter in familiar forms.
The exhibit includes new paintings done at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Tregaron Conservancy, both in DC, and Lily ponds in Adamstown, MD, as well as landscapes from Maine and the Pacific Northwest.
