Opening June 22-July 16 First Friday Reception July 1 6-8 Solo Show:
Suzanne Goldberg "Chiaroscuro of the Landscape" Ms Goldberg as been
astounded by the beauty of the deep earth tones of the mountains that
contrast with the snow peaks as she travels to the West Coast. The
rhythms and textures of the mountains and landscapes echo the passion
she hears in Beethoven’s music, with the occasional river providing
gentle relief. Her technique and materials are inspired by Anselm
Keifer and his use of various found materials including sand, reeds,
twigs and dirt. Ms Goldberg primarily uses ashes to give her
landscape canvases more depth and texture New Member Show: Trish
Palasik and Sally Levie.

Solo Show: Carol Rubin "Finding the Pulse" Ms. Rubin explores the
essential rhythms and beats, the energy of life, woven through
plants, waves, teaming cities and life affirming sarcophagi! Given the
range of her subject matter, there is a cohesiveness to her wonderful
application of paint and in her beautiful subdued palette. Duo Show:
Andrew Acquadro "The Essence of the Image" and Freda Lee McCann
"Hidden Meaning" Mr Acquadro uses memory to capture the essence and
simplicity of places he has visited. He deconstructs his images in
abstract works on small canvases. Ms Lee-McCann continues to honor the
great Chinese masters of the past, both in their poetry and art. She
boldly combines the use of poetry (calligraphy), watercolor, and pen
and ink in dynamic pieces that are equally elegant, graceful and
poetic.

Solo Show: Jacqui Crocetta "Protect. Nurture. Release" Ms. Crocetta
in her first solo show at Studio Gallery examines the intense nature
of mothering--the protecting, nurturing and releasing of children as
they move from total dependence toward independence. The struggle
between opposing forces and an ever-changing shift in roles, is what
shapes the complex mother-child dynamic.
Duo Show: Angelika Wamsler "A Flow of Different Light and Deep" and
Suzanne Yurdin "New Abstract Work". Ms. Wamsler continues with her
explorations of abstract organic forms that evoke magical worlds of
land, sea and mythology. Ms Yurdin uses the power of abstraction to
evoke landscapes in a variety of beautiful palettes.


Studio Gallery shows the works of guest and emerging artists each
month in their upstairs Betsy Ross Gallery as well as the work of
Member artists. We also feature unique outdoor sculpture in our
garden. Studio Gallery is located in a beautiful brownstone in
historic Dupont Circle and is available for parties, meeting and
receptions.

Opening March 30-April 23, 2011 First Friday Reception April 1 (not kidding) 6-8 p.m. Artist's Reception April 15 6-8 p.m. Solo Show: Joyce McCarten "Uncommon Boundaries:New Abstract Paintings". Ms McCarten continues the tradition of using rich color, rich brushstroke and rich light on the canvas to evoke landscape and architecture, the mystery of expression and emotion. In this year of looking at the seminal work of the Abstract Expressionists at MOMA and at abstraction throughout the United States, Ms McCarten so beautifully conveys the strength and dynamism of the canvas. Duo Show: Bud Hensgen "Revisiting the Rectangle" and Veronica Szalus "transition" Mr Hensgen uses the wonderful rectangle as a launching pad for his abstract works that like Ms McCarten's question the sense of space, surface and mystery of the canvas. Ms Szalus in her first duo show at the Gallery will create three installations, all "transitional" pieces that reflect light, shape, balance and time. Together these elements form the means for transition from one state of being into the next. From the macro to the micro, organic and inorganic...everything is evolving and changing.

Opening February 2-26, 2011 First Friday Reception Feb 4, 2011 6-8 p.m. Solo Show: Steve Fleming. In his first solo show at Studio Gallery, master watercolorist and painter Steve Fleming exhibits a new body of work based on recent travels and landscapes. There is a sense of sculpture, of space and of structure in these rich works that use the medium in ways that evoke the colors of the southwest, the imagined landscapes of primordial earth and the Kalahari Desert. Duo Show: Trix Kuijper and Elena Stamberg. Ms Kuijper continues her fascination with the Surrealist world and in her newest group of paintings, uses the three dimensionality of the canvas to explore the duality of the natural world - its fragility and vulnerability contrasted with its power and occasionally its savagery. Ms Stamberg, a multi-media artist, creates beautiful textile surfaces in small stitched paintings. Each work evokes a landscape or a minimalist abstract piece in a soft and peaceful palet
